Backyard Burger’s Heart Attack
PHP 245 – 1/2 lb beef patty, crisp pork belly, cheese sauce, cheddar cheese on freshly baked hoagie bun
Many restaurants dip in quality the longer they’ve been around. Not Backyard Burgers. If anything, they’ve gotten better.
We’ve always liked these guys but we’ve never quite fallen in love with them. They make the best buns and offer great value for money, but the patties we thought were just ok. It’s been a year since our last visit though, so we were pleased to find that their patties have improved a lot since then. They’re much better now — tastier, and just as big and juicy.
This Heart Attack burger has been on their menu since day one but we never tried it. Honestly, I don’t know why we waited this long because it does sound awesome in theory. Crisp slices of pork belly on a half pound all-beef burger? As you’d expect, it was delicious. The pork belly adds some terrific crunch and flavor to every bite. You can actually hear the crunch. It’s so satisfying. And of course, their hoagie buns are still the best. They’re soft and chewy without ever getting soggy.
If you’ve never been to Backyard Burgers and aren’t quite sure what to order, then I strongly urge you to get this one. It’s really, really good.
Verdict: 4 / 5
